Happy 2012!!!
I hope you all had a ton of fun last night and were safe. AND I hope you are all ready for 2012!
I am so excited for it to be 2012. Not only am I planning to state my 2012 goals tomorrow, but I’m kicking off the new year with a fitness challenge. I’m calling this challenge, “Back to Fit”
I’ve been really guilt tripping myself over not having a stable workout routine, not strength training and struggling to return to running. However, I have to keep reminding myself that it’s perfectly normal given how busy my schedule has been and how I came off a really serious injury and exercise restriction, just as my schedule picked up.

I’ve been waiting for the time to come when I can make enough time in my schedule to start an exercise challenge. And with all the traveling I did in December, January was the first opportunity I’ve had.
This challenge was inspired by Kristina’s December to Remember challenge, which was inspired by Cassie’s All About the Number’s challenge.
This challenge is all about tracking various numbers. I really love this challenge because it gives you hardcore, strict goals to reach – but also gives you the flexibility to complete it over a span of time. If you miss one day, you can make it up. If you do more than you expected another day, you’ll just be ahead on the challenge!
By the end of this challenge, I hope to have a re-established workout routine and hopefully be in better running and spinning shape.
the rules
I have to complete ALL of the following goals between 1-1-12 and 1-31-12. If I complete all, I will give myself a pair of UGG boots. I’ve been eying them on Zappos (and have a 20% of Zappos coupon burning a hole in my email). I don’t know which ones I want yet – but here are some of the ones I’m eying (all from Zappos):
the goals
1. Do 10 “real” pushups. Not all at once. In fact, they will probably be one at a time.
2. Get 232,500 steps with my fitbit. This is a daily average of 7,500 per day.
3. Climb 620 flights of stairs with my fitbit. This is a daily average of 20 flights per day.
4. Do 9 strength sessions. Saying sessions here is much easier than counting minutes. A session is generally upper body/back/core for me. I haven’t been doing lower body since I became injured. One session typically takes 45 minutes-an hour.
5. Spend 120 minutes on a spin bike. This is an average of 30 minutes, once a week.
6. Do 1,550 crunches. Daily average of 50.
7. Attend 1 group exercise class. I haven’t attended a class since I was exercise restricted. I don’t know which one I’ll be able to attend, but I would really like to attend 1 by the end of the month.
8. Earn 155 fitbit miles. My fitbit tracks miles/distance covered every day – in total. This is an average of 5 miles per day.
9. Earn 31 running or walking miles. Daily average of 1 mile per day.
10. Spend 540 minutes on cross training. I’ve already planned spinning and running/walking – so this goal will encompass that, plus elliptical and anything else I decide to do for cross training through the month. This is an average of 4, 30 minute sessions per week (times 4.5 weeks).
I will be tracking all of these numbers in an excel spreadsheet, and I hope to post an update on where I am at least once throughout the month.
Is anyone else starting a January fitness challenge? Or does anyone else want to participate in mine (you can set your own goals?)
ALSO, tell me all about your NYE please

Wow! You go girl!
Unfortunately, my NYE plans fell through last minute, so I just watched movies at home!
lame!
I’m in. I have three fitness goals in mind for January:
bike a 50K (at the gym)
run one mile (without stopping)
take a spin class (scary, LOL)
I will definitely let you know if I think of any others! I will also put them up on my blog hopefully later today!
NYE- went hiking in the morning and it was amazing. Was supposed to do a midnight 5K but we were so exhausted we didn’t go
Instead we stayed in bed and watched the ball drop and then went out and watcher fireworks at midnight. It was still a pretty amazing day!
My fitness goals for January are:
Walk 60 miles
Get at least 217,000 steps w/ my BodyFit Media armband (that’s a daily goal of 7000)
Do 800 crunches
Thanks for the challenge, hope I can be successful. Wait, I AM going to be successful!
My NYE was a quiet one. Went out to dinner with the family (my mom, cousins and daughter). Then rang in the new year at my cousin’s house across the street and had 2 glasses of wine (very rare for me, not much of a drinker). Quiet but fun evening.
Those are some really healthy goals, you go girl! I don’t do NY Resolutions (I tend to get inspired in April or Sept) but I really love it when others catch the inspiration bug.
I spent my NYE at a tiki bar in Alameda (an Island off of Oakland) with some friends. It was pretty fun and low key but a nice way to bring in the new year!
I don’t really see my yearly goals as “resolutions”, although I could see how others may interpret it as such. I also find myself really inspired by new weeks and new months – and tend to start on things when those “first days” approach.
And I LOVE low key NYE plans
Yours sounded lovely!
I’m in! http://www.britteats.com/2012/01/back-to-fitness-in-2012-challenge.html
That’s a heck of a challenge, girl!!!
I’m so proud of you, getting in it after injury. That’s super hard.
I’ve got serious spreadsheet envy! I love me some excel!
Girl, there is nothing I love more than some excel
#hello there! haha. i just saw your comment on sarah’s blog and i’m happy to report……. i started a blog! http://www.itzlinz.com check it out! and because of your comment, i found your blog!! #doublewin
Omg I love it! I’m adding your blog to my bookmarks right now! Congrats!
I’m starting an eat right challenge in January. lol. I’m great about getting my workouts in but I snack ALL THE TIME. I’m constantly noshing on something and it’s got to stop! Hopefully having the start of the year will motivate me to get my eats in check!
You can do it girl! Veggie tray a day
I love your goals and I can’t wait to see you get those Uggs!!
Know what I really like about your goals? That they have numbers. I mean, I can say, “Hey, I’m going to run three days a week…” but having a mileage goal would be a great way to push it, you know?
PS: Shoes are TOTALLY the best way to reward yourself.
