taking a peek

I’ve wanted to write a “what’s in my gym bag” post for a while, but I never really used my gym bag the way most people do. But now that I’m back to a working schedule and back on the after-work workout routine, my gym bag usage has completely changed!

The first week of my internship, I came home every day and thought I would workout then. Ha, that didn’t really work. It seems the minute I pull into my garage, all resolve to hit the gym leaves my body. The only exception is when I know I’m strength training and home that night, when I use other motivating factors to make me workout.

Since the second week of my internship, I’ve been packing my gym bag every night and throwing it in my car. Then I can go straight to the gym after work and hit a class or do some other cardio.

I will say, I don’t shower at the gym – so keep that in mind when looking at these pictures. Since I workout a night, there’s no need to get ready after my workout.

My gym bag is the Dakine Sarita and I got it on Zappos.

It doesn’t look like it has that much room, but I can fit quite a bit in it. Here’s the main compartment’s haul:

  • 2 sports bras
  • Towel
  • Pants hanger
  • T-shirt
  • Wicking capris
  • Wicking tank top
  • Dry-fit short sleeve top
  • Heart rate monitor chest band
  • Stretch strap from PT
  • Socks (x2)
  • Notebook for strength training
  • Flip flops

The side has a shoe pocket, which had my running shoes in it this day. I have been trying to keep my cross trainers and my spin shoes in the trunk of my car, just because I never know my schedule and when I’ll actually get off work. I have to be super flexible and go to whatever class I can make it to based on the time I get off/drive to the gym. My gym doesn’t have a location near the hospital, so I have to go to one closer to my house or on the way home.

The front pocket has random stuff in it, that changes depending on what I’m doing. For example, if I’m going to a road race – I’ll throw my garmin, my race ID, my bib, etc in there. Sometimes these things will stay in there for a while, just depends. But for just every day gym use – this is what has been in there lately.

  • Runner mp3 player + headphones
  • Headphone case
  • SpiBelt
  • Shot Bloks – I’ve been taking these before/after my night workouts to overcome some really bad nausea I’ve been having since switching to nights
  • Gym locks
  • Headbands
  • Hair tie
  • Deodorant
  • Fruit leather (also to fight nausea)
  • Blister friction stick
  • Emergen-C
  • Cereal bar for pre-workout
  • Pen
  • Heart rate monitor receiver + watch

Not that exciting, but also a fun look into something personal!

What do you keep in your gym bag?
